Have you ever worked so hard to figure out how to do something and when you finally did you wanted to tell the world? Well, I feel like that a lot and now I've decided to at least to put out there what I've worked so hard to learn and share it with others. A lot of what I enjoy doing is to take a step back in time and tradition and do things a little closer to the way they used to be done. I'm trying to do more cooking at home and some sewing, all to be healthier and save money! Sometimes it can be hard to find out how something should be done and so I hope to make others' journey a little easier. From re-purposing ideas to recipes and methods. I'm excited to share my stories across the board but mainly in those areas, and I can't wait to hear from you! Add your recipes, craft ideas, diet tips, health alerts or maybe even what the Lord is doing in your life!
To start with, I'm in my mid twenties, mother of two and married happily for four years. I'm a stay at home mom (SAHM) and I enjoy selling on ebay, cooking, productive sewing, and exercising.

I am all about trying to save money! I am going to attempt to make my own detergent & dish soap to save money. I haven't done it yet but I'm hoping it turns out okay! To try & save money on groceries I have tried to make bigger meals so we can have leftovers. i.e. soups, stews, big pots of pasta, etc.. I would love to sew but I don't know how. The only thing I can do is sew on a button. :)
ReplyDeleteI've spent my whole life in the spirit if this blog...looking for ways I could 'do it myself' rather than pay someone else to do it. My early motivation was a home repair in our cellar... we paid two men to build some structural support. Every time I checked on them they were taking a smoking break. When they finally left, & we paid the $400 bill, I said "I could have done this myself... better". Learning to use power tools was liberating! I've tried homemade detergents... love the castile recipe, but I don't think I saved much money. I've always done my own home decor sewing when I needed to, but my all-time best advice is to garage sale often. Some things are cheaper to buy, remake & repurpose than the time & expense of raw materials. Actually, I look at g-sales as my source for raw materials. This is especially true in the areas of home furnishing and clothing. Fabric is expensive, so I'm always looking for textiles of any kind. Kids are a in a state of constant change. If you keep an eye out for what's coming down the road, you can almost supply your life in these areas from garage sales. My kids & I have had alot of fun memories doing this together. Looking back, it would have been an execellent opportunity to teach them budgeting on a scale they could actually do some trading on their own. When winter comes & sale season is over, I hit fla-markets. You can always look for cheap stuff to sell on ebay. I've had some jackpot stories, been stuck with some junk... so my rule is only buy what I like unless I'm willing to take the loss. All-in-all, though, I have more regrets from stuff I didn't buy than from stuff I've bought & never found a place for. I make small occasional trips to the thrift store for things I have exhausted possiblities for & cannot use. You never know, maybe someone else can benefit.
ReplyDeleteJanice I am so excited to have you on this blog. I am so excited to get all you ideas and input! I'm completely new at this. I want to do more of the flea-market scene. I've been learning to use the sewing machine and how to do some projects since I've gotten married and I enjoy everything but the frustration of not being very good at it. I hope with practice I'll get better and eventually be pleased with what I come up with!

What was your recipe of laundry detergent? If it's not any more expensive then it's worth making. Sometimes I don't mind spending a little more if it's better for my family's health.

Sorry Jessica! I just got back around to checking out your blog & noticed that you had asked me a question. I still haven't made my own detergent but I was planning on using the recipe from the Duggars. For some reason I can't post the link but you can find it on the TLC site under their show & then you go to recipes & it's posted on there. I really want to try it but just haven't found the time to go buy the stuff & actually make it!
